To the Gorge celebrated its six month anniversary of being a real, live book a few weeks ago and Iโve been reflecting a lot on everything thatโs gone into publishing this memoir and having it out in the world. Iโll share some of my thoughts on all that in the next week or two, but right now, I mostly want to say THANK YOU to everyone whoโs read it, shared it, talked about it, posted a rating or review, sent me kind notes, told a friend about it, asked your library to carry it, or added it to your TBR pile (thatโs โto be readโ in the book world). Publishing a memoir can be a terrifying thing and youโve made it a lot less scary and a lot more wonderful than it could be. The biggest thank you from me to you. ๐ค
Before I dig into more of that, I wanted to pop in with a quick time-sensitive update about holiday things. (How are we already to the cramming part of the holidays? What is time and why does it go so fast?)
Iโve got a small pile of books for signing and inscribing for holiday gifting. I shared this on instagram stories yesterday and it was met with a bunch of excitement and Iโm excited to share it here, too. It makes me so damn happy to hear about people gifting To the Gorge (and oh my goodness, Andrea Halnon, queen of book gifts would be absolutely bursting with joy).
Iโd love to personalize, wrap, send books straight to the giftees, or do other acts of holiday elf-ing. (Also, highly encourage holiday gifting things to yourself, books or otherwise. You definitely deserve it.) I can ship these or arrange for local handoffs. Just make sure to order by December 17th (if shipping) to hit those pesky holiday shipping deadlines.
In other book news that I havenโt really shared yet, my audiobook is also out and available for reading. Itโs narrated by me, which was the one thing I truly fought for during the contract negotiation process - and then again when my audio rights were sold. Itโs my story, my mom, my heart on these pages. I wanted this book to be read in my voice, too.
I spent three days recording the book in a small studio outside Portland with an amazing audio engineer, and Dilly, listening to every word. As I read, I could feel the emotions in this book seeping into my voice and Iโm so glad I fought for the chance to read it. If you listen, I hope my voice and my feelings add a little something to the story.
Thanks again for being part of To the Gorgeโs first few months of book-ing. I canโt even convey how much I appreciate any time youโve spent, or will spend, with this book. More from me soon.
Your book was beautiful! I could feel your emotions as I was reading, it really brought the reader into your story. Loved it! ๐
